The Tanglangquan (螳螂拳, Boxing Praying Mantis) is a style of Chinese martial arts that is classified as imitative style (Xiangxingquan 象形 拳 ), as it mimics the movements of an insect: the praying mantis. There are two schools which use this name: one in southern China (also called Jow-Ga Kung Fu) and one in the north.
The creation of the North Tanglangquan is attributed to Wang Lang (王朗), a native of character of Jimo, Shandong Province. He would have long observed a praying mantis and he created his own style by using the way of moving the arms of this insect merging it with the use of the legs of the monkey style.
